Dazza tackles . . . Glenn Manton

Glenn Manton is a man who seems to have done it all: an entertainer, educator, author, comedian and highly sort after public speaker. He also squeezed in over 200 games of AFL football for Essendon and Carlton as a defender/ forward. Dazza gets Glenn to sit still for a couple of minutes to answer 12 of life’s most important questions:

1. You played in two AFL grand finals and three night premierships. What is the worst half-time entertainment you’ve ever seen?

Ang Christou treating a recurring groin injury.

2. You played in a side that had Sticks, Dog, Harry, the Duke, Diesel and Rhino. Were you ever tempted to make up your own nickname?

Nicknames are not appointed by ones self but rather due to stupidity, physical shortcoming or embellishment or sheer laziness eg Mants.

3. If you were on the AFL rules committee, how would you best incorporate a BBQ into the game?

Each team to nominate 1 player to 'cook off' a series of meats in the event of a draw (See 2010 GF)

4. What is the funniest thing to happen to you while wearing footy shorts?

Footy shorts aren't a joke and should never be considered the source of one.

5. Which team would you most like to see on top of the ladder in 2011? And on the bottom?

Gold Coast-wouldn't that be amazing. No one has ever finished first and last before.

6. Where do you think the Gold Coast Suns will finish this season?

At the seedy nightspot in Bali

7. If Gazza led The Suns to a premiership this year, what would his commemorative tattoo read?

Garry would never mark his sacred skin in such fashion-besides what would he think of such a tattoo when he signs with Collingwood in 2014?

8. If Fev agreed to attend Bogans Anonymous, would you find him a spot in your Dream Team forward line?

Like Isiah Thomas I don't do dream teams.

9. If you were lining up for a goal on the siren for a premiership and you could have one song play on the stadium PA what would it be and why?

Frank Sinatra's 'I did it my way' for the sheer drama of it.

10. What is your favourite pub for a post-game beer?

Ettamogah Pub. Not exactly local though.

11. Gazza, Judd or Swannie?

Garry-especially now that he will have a tan

12. Best bogan - Danny Southern, Tony Lockett or Darren Milburn?

The great Danny Southern.

This week's S&L burning question . . . .

Who remembers David Kernahan?  No one? Well it might suprise you to learn he got a run with Carlton over 6 seasons while his brother Stephen was captain.

Now reviving the tradition of inspirational captains having younger brothers with 'questionable' talent comes the pairing of Gary Jr and Nathan Ablett at the Gold Coast Suns.  Will Nathan get a touch in season 2011?  If he was going for $20 would you slot him in your Dream Team?

Let Dazza know . . .

  1. Apparently David Kernahan was a bit of an odd-jobs man around the club. He cut his brother, Steves hair and was further encouraged when Chris langford from Hawthorn wanted his cut as well. He became entrenched with Carlton when he started doing their Bookkeeping. Last we heard he was working for Melbourne storm.
